The Gabriel Figueroa Mateos award is granted only to those filmmakers whose cinematic vision transcends the ordinary, evoking the profound essence of reality through light, landscape, and the human experience.
The director honored with this distinction “Has demonstrated an exceptional mastery of visual art, skillfully capturing truth in its purest form and transforming it into cinematic poetry. Their film not only documents but elevates the viewer's experience, transporting them to a world where every frame, every shadow, and every glimmer of light reveals the richness of our existence. Like Figueroa, this director has sculpted images that reflect both the beauty of nature and the complexity of the human condition, leaving an indelible mark on the history of documentary filmmaking.”
